Before the order ticket

The risk review should happen before the order is placed. Once price starts moving, it is harder to make calm decisions about stop distance, size and target placement.

A short checklist can make the process repeatable.

The checklist

Confirm the entry area, stop loss, invalidation point, target levels, stop distance, position size, maximum loss, reward-to-risk ratio and whether the candle timing supports the entry.

Also confirm the account, instrument, order type and whether a bracket or protective order is expected after entry.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes include sizing from hope instead of stop distance, moving the stop after entry, placing orders on the wrong account and entering while a candle is still forming without realizing it.

A visual planning workflow helps catch these mistakes before they become live risk.

Tools that support the checklist

RSX Trade Risk Planner supports the risk, size and target part of the checklist. RSX Candle Timer supports the timing part of the checklist.

Together they keep the most important pre-trade information close to the chart.
